FIVE FUN FACTS ABOUT AUTHOR  DARLA HOGAN

QUICK Q&A.

Darla Hogan was born in Southampton, England. He worked for over 25 years as a Physics teacher in the UK, before realising a dream and starting his own business. He currently owns and runs Hogan’s, a sandwich shop in Blackpool (an obvious connection?). Darla has always been passionate about reading and enjoys many genres, including short stories and Science Fiction.

As an avid reader he thought he would turn his hand to writing, which we at Kensington Gore publishing think he has a considerable talent. He is modest and like all other good writers he feels he is learning each and every day the skills and craft of a writer.

In 2011, Darla began working on a novel, titled ‘Perfect Creation:  Book 1 Adolescence’. This is the first book of a series of four books that will be published as three volumes and available through 2015-16.  Book One is currently available on the Kindle platform and in paperback format from Amazon. http://amzn.to/1eH1E5H

Darla is now working with a co-author, Mia Zielinska , on completing this epic Science/Fantasy novel.  During the period of rewriting and editing of Perfect Genesis.

Darla has written over thirty short stories that fall into the Horror and Paranormal genres. Darla intends to write more of these stories and the first set is now published by us Kensington Gore Publishers and the first volume has topped the amazon UK short stories chart.

Darla has signed up for at least a further two volumes of his scary short stories which will become available over the next two years.

Horror is something he longs to return to and short stories are to some a dying art form we believe Darla's writing give it a much needed new lease of life.

What made you want to sign for KGHH Publishing?

DH: Good question, I can and will write in multiple genres, but I do have a love for telling a story about real imaginary people through the medium of using a bizarre or twisted plot that provokes thought.

How do you see this changing your writing career?

DH: Honest answer, that depends on Kensington Gore Publishing.

What inspired you to write in the first place?

DH: My head fills with ideas when my mind is on tick over, I think it’s called imagination. All of these plays with thinking will disappear at the moment of my death, so I will defeat death by leaving my thoughts alive in other peoples’ minds

What made you write your latest book?

DH: My latest book is not horror and not published by Kensington Gore, you’ll have to search my bio to find the answer to this question.

Who is your favourite writer?

DH: So hard to answer, there are too many, but I do consider Thomas Hardy to be a timeless master of the human condition.

What's your favourite book?

DH: Even harder to answer, there are so many amazing books out there, some barely discovered. I will pick one obscure book science fiction book from the fifties and it’s not by Philip K Dick, I don’t even know the name of the author (so sad) but its title is Mission Gravity.

Do you read a lot? If so what are you reading right now?

DH: I read a lot, but at present, I have to admit I’m revisiting a few old favourites such as Dune and The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

Where do you see yourself and your writing in five years time?

DH: Who knows? My current main work Perfect Genesis made into a film?

What do you like most about writing?

DH: The control to enter new worlds of your own creation. You can play God without hurting people.

What one writing tip would you share?

DH: If your head is churning with ideas that you want to express or preserve, make a start on the journey, you will find the way if you persevere.

An exerpt from Darla Hogan's first short story collection - Demise & Other Macarbe Endings?

1. Even though I love horror stories, I am easily scared by all things creepy and crawly.

2. My first name was picked from a book.

3. I can conceive and reason ten-dimensional space-time.

4. I strongly believe all humans should be treated with the respect they deserve as individuals and not be categorised by their origin, race, colour, sexuality or religion.

5. I estimate I’ve read at least 3000 books, maybe 2000 were trash, but sometimes we need trash so we recognise quality.
